READING SUCCESS!
Cheetwood is proud to have achieved a Silver Reading Award!

We are pleased to announce that One Education Ltd accredited the school with this award which validated our commitment to improving reading outcomes for our pupils.

OUR SCHOOL LIBRARY
During the 2019/2020 academic year, we worked hard to reorganise the school library and make it easy to find books by having lots of different categories and a visual organisation system.

 HOME READING BOOKS
We have reorganised and updated our home reading books across the school. In EYFS and KS1, your child will bring home a reading book each week that links to their developing phonic knowledge. In KS2, pupils can choose from a reading book appropriate to their level of understanding.

Due to school closures during the Covid 19 pandemic, statutory testing in primary schools was suspended in 2019-2020, so Cheetwood’s most recent externally validated data is from the academic year 2018-2019. The data summarised below is the school’s own internal data from 2019-2020.

Pupils are given a weekly challenge of reading at least three times a week and having their home-school reading record signed by an adult. Evidence from weekly data gathered demonstrated numbers of pupils achieving this challenge increased over the year and moving into the 2020/2021 academic year, the majority of pupils still continue to read at least three times a week at home.

We thank all parents/carers for their support with this. Reading consistently and regularly at home clearly had a significant impact on the outcomes pupils achieved in school.

These high standards will be maintained by us continuing to promote reading for pleasure, encouraging home reading and holding reading events for pupils and parents throughout the school year.

Please help your child by signing their home-school reading record to show you have read with your child.

If you have any questions about this please speak to your child’s teacher.

There are many ways to enlarge your child’s world. Love of books is the best of all”
